RADmires: crowdfunding a new trail for Sheffield

Photo from the launch of Lady Cannings, by Richard Baybutt.

What’s that? Another mountain bike trail being built here in Sheffield?

Yep, all being well a new trail will open to the public at Redmires reservoir by summer 2017. The trail will run alongside the byway up to Stanage Pole from Redmires Road, descending for 1.8km – making it 50% longer than the current trail at Lady Cannings.

What sets RADmires apart from the other trails here in Sheffield? Well, it is going to have a higher technical level than Lady Cannings, and will be a great trail to develop biking skills. The route will be mainly blue, like Lady Cannings, but with red and potentially black level opt-ins, making it perfect for development.

Ride Sheffield, the local mountain bike advocacy group behind this new venture and previously Lady Cannings, is now raising money to make the new trail happen. They set the wheels in motion at their fifth birthday party in December 2015, raising £1250. Their target, though, is a whopping £45k. So whether you’re an eager mountain biker or you just like to support community projects within your city, your help is more than welcome.
