Home to the British Bouldering Championships for the weekend, Devonshire Green will once again form the main hub of the action complete with a huge purpose-built climbing wall.
In addition to this there’ll also be various have-a-go activities dotted around the site including climbing walls, parkour and orienteering, as well as a range of outdoor recreation traders, food stalls and of course, a bar. There'll also be an open orienteering competition on the Sunday.
The Cliffhanger festival party will kick off the weekend events on Friday, open in time for post-work drinks from 5pm and then with live music running into the evening from 6.15pm through to 10pm. Live music will then be back for the Saturday evening 4.15pm- 10pm too after the bouldering championship qualifying has taken place. The perfect place to celebrate or commiserate after the England V Sweden match.
The main spectacle on Barkers Pool will no doubt be the Zip Line, giving festival-goers city centre thrills as they whizz themselves down a high wire. Down below British Cycling will also bringing a range of interactive bike activities, alongside some colourful fairground rides and food stalls.
PEACE GARDENS AND MILLENNIUM SQUARE:
Normally a space for relaxation, the Peace Gardens is set to be one of the most active areas of Cliffhanger weekend with a host of have-go style activities on offer. Are you tough enough to take on the Tough Guy assault circuit? Or fancy a dip? Try out the Dive World scuba pool.
There’ll also be skateboarding demos, a large caving installation, yet another assault course courtesy of Sheffield Scouts plus a host of kid’s activities from Heart Radio. Up and Running will also be setting up their base camp where they’ll be hosting a series of led-runs. Meanwhile, BMX demo roadshow, Extreme Wheels will be setting up camp in Millennium Square once again to showcase their spectacular skills throughout the day.
For the second year running, there’ll be a giant inflatable Air Bag outside the main entrance to the Town Hall, complete with two levels of jumping platforms to allow any dare-devil types to jump or flip onto the bag below.
TUDOR SQUARE AND THE WINTER GARDEN:
Greentop Circus will be pitching up in Tudor Square, to perform and offer everyone the opportunity to learn some new tricks and skills with trapeze workshops.
If all the excitement gets too much, the Winter Gardens will be a welcome oasis of calm where you’ll be able to learn more about Sheffield’s wildlife and green spaces from Friends of the Peak District, the Wildlife Trust, RSPB and Ecclesall Woodcrafts.
